Why does it appear that the greyish bumpy surface is PMD ?
The copper appears smooth and original to me. The rough grey appears raised higher than the copper. In certain areas it seems more noticeable like around Liberty. Wherever the 2 colors meet, this is what seems to be happening. If copper was added as PMD, then wouldn't it be higher than the grey?
Assuming grey is the original surface here.
doesn't matter what anybody says, because I'm sure its PMD one way or the other. I get why someone might try to make a steel coin look like copper, I don't get why someone would try to make a copper coin look like steel.
It is not rusting, it is magnetic and its been in my family for more than 40 years. WIN_20190506_20_59_01_Pro.jpg WIN_20190506_20_54_51_Pro.jpg WIN_20190506_20_54_33_Pro.jpg

Just found this 88' D with the same look and there's some doubling on obverse & reverse.
