I have several Silver Eagles and a couple of Gold Eagles. They are still as they came from the US Mint, would it be advantageous to have them professionally graded?
They are already well protected in the capsules, and you know they are authentic if purchased directly from the mint. These are bullion coins (gorgeous, but just bullion) so are tied into the PM (precious metals) values only. It wouldn't increase their value to have them graded. If you want graded bullion, it's often more cost effective to purchase them already graded.
+1 unless your one of them who wants every coin graded in their collection, its going to cost ya, it will not increase the value to make it feasible.
$18 silver eagle gains a couple or more, being slabbed, depends on the year and mm, everyone knows its silver, but it cost more to encase. I should clarify, if bought directly from the mint, they are way more expensive, but purchased as they come from the mint, its bullion and the company had to buy thousands. and sold as bullion. don't grade, no need. unless you have a rare one.
NO ! Not worth it...as others have stated bullion coins don't increase in value other than the melt value.
Save the cost of grading and use those funds to buy two more ASE's*. *at today's spot bullion prices.
Doubtful. The only way I see it helping is if they somehow grade MS-70 or PR-70, and the likelihood of that is pretty close to null.
Your coins would MOST LIKLY be graded MS-69. Bullion (your silver and gold coins) with that grade is Not NOT NOT be worth grading. We only get coins graded that are rare, or especially clean and perfect (you need microscope ect). - Please please please ask the form for advice in the future. We hope you’re well, and your silver and gold bullion sounds awesome
I didn't start collecting coins until after my father died. I got quite a lot of rare coins that I shared with my younger brother. He told me he would give me his coins if I would build a model 1967 Oldsmobile 442. I haven't finished the model and he hasn't given me any coins yet. Anyway.. I took some of my coins to a dealer and asked him how I should store and protect them. He gave me some great information. However, he had some gold coins in a showcase. I was interested in a few gold coins.. I bought an 1895 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin (Raw), and a 1904 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin (also Raw). He had some other coins in NGC enclosures or whatever they're called and I thought they were neat so I asked him how I could get them graded. He took them to a Coin Show and had them graded. The Gold Eagle received MS61 and the Double Gold Eagle, UNC Details-Obverse Scratched. I never would have seen the scratches if I had not had them graded. I also bought a 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle that had already been PCGS graded-MS68. I thought that was pretty good until I got more familiar with coins. I have found the "Ignorance is Bliss". No more grades, unless I buy them graded.
Not worth the small percentage you will get a 70. Even then, they are overpriced on the market. OGP sometime is more attractive and guarantees authenticity. Too many fake NGC and PCGS holders that contain counterfeit coins, so that is also the risk if you grade/slab the coin, and the buyers are wary.
