I find all my coins CRHing and came across this MM that caught my eye. I didn't see a match on Wexlers. Any thoughts?
What are the chances of finding something that isnt on variety Vista, or wexlers? I mean everything cant be found already could it? Seems doubtful to me. Thanks Foo
All I can quote is from wexler's page a top of the listings. "The word "Complete" following a particular date and mint mark indicates that the page illustrates all of the RPM varieties listed in the Wexler RPM Files for that particular date and mint mark. If you have a genuine RPM variety for that date and mint mark that does not match any of the illustrated varieties, it would most likely be a new listing."
IMHO...it would have to show more characteristics. Let’s suppose it is actually an RPM: ...without something inside the D... ...without extra metal outside the perimeter of the mintmark..., ...you have what we see in your coin. Now, everyone, and I include rpm buyers out there, will say they see a contact mark hit, or it is too minor. Collectors see this every day and make judgment calls about the “tells” they find on coins. In doubled dies, I have found die markers but can’t confirm the doubling, usually too much wear, so that if it ever was there, circulation has erased it. This is why everyone gets so excited when a member actually finds a confirmable variety, because it is so difficult to find in all the billions of coins out there. It is, as they say, the nature of the beast...they are out there...Spark
I didn't say it was or it wasn't. I posted the coin and took the advice of people more knowledgeable than I. I can except that a coin I post isn't what I want it to be. I do appreciate your thoughts. But I'm sure there are still varieties out there that haven't found a camera yet..... At least I hope!
IMO although the odds of finding a new variety are extremely high I would hope there are still some to be found "out there". If there was no chance, then what's the sense of looking. Wexler lists his email address on the first page. If you believe there's a slight chance you've found a new variety or error, why not contact him and ask how you can submit it for verification and the cost of doing so. Good luck!
Not to change the subject very much, but I've been reading about some newer DDs, that actually exist in the Single Squeeze Arena. It does give me hope, I just have to use "new eyes" to find them. Slightly different than the 69s or 55 or any of the other old dogs we always look for. When I find my notes I'll post them.
