Sounds to me like he's got bit of bi-polar at work in his coin room. With a response like that, I'd best write it off to the scenario that he was paying his last years taxes and got your envelope mixed up with his Tax Accountants.

It costs you "Nada" to leave positive feedback.

I think ebay collects state sales tax from you based on the state in which you reside rather than the state from which the item(s) were bought. Either way, I HATE having another hand in my pocket!

Ha ha! I was just about to say, don't overlook one of the more obvious answers: Joe may be just a little bit crazy.

I have to admit I am curious as to why, but he may have problems functioning in the real world and thus, makes a living on Ebay, far from human contact.
Curious that he uses different color inks. He may have meant that for someone else.
Of course, that still begs the question. Its like asking where/how life started, then saying it came here from somewhere else.
    It doesnt answer the question.
    Oh well!

It does. Like I said, Illinois where I live doesn't tax coins which is great. I would have spent a lot more money over the years otherwise.

I am not a psychiatrist nor a psychologist but I do not construe this to be a symptom of passive-aggressive behavior. It's more in line with multiple personalities. However, that disorder seems to be a US disorder, something not acknowledged, outside of movies, by the rest of the world.

What a quirky seller. Was he drunk?

Just ignore it, throw it in trash. I would not do any more business with him again.

It could be that the seller uses multiple selling platforms (e.g. Etsy, Ma-Shops, etc.) and perhaps at least one of those platforms has an option for the buyer to deduct/charge something else. And, perhaps he confused you with a buyer from that platform.

I'm curious about your avatar? I recently saw one of these for sale along with some other older damaged coins and I didn't think it had any value? Apologies for straying off the OP's subject, I can't stand ebay!

Bipolar and a bit paranoid? Meth addiction?
That's not your problem it's his that's for sure.

You got a nice coin, he apologized for his behavior and he probably can't explain what he was thinking or why he did what he did, so I'd just let it go and think twice before buying from that seller again because it seems like he's some sort of a loose cannon.

Probably really fUn at parties though so maybe invite him to you new house warming party?

He might have confused you with another buyer or was just having a bad day. If you're satisfied with the purchased item, just leave a positive feedback and see how he responds (Agree with Chris).

Like some others have suggested, leave positive feedback. Life is too short, he apologized, just challenged it up to a mistake and assume the best in life. I am getting too old to get worked up on perceived slights when there are enough real ones to keep you mad. :(
