Yes, you see that especially with coins....I see guys all the time saying they'll take AU 58 Saints or Morgans over MS 61's or 60's.

That,s exactly right, in notes as iam sure its similar in coins distractions
Are key, markings, pin holes staple holes and any type of graffiti, placed
in the right spot will doom a note, even if its somewhat hidden most
of the time the grade will be the same, heres a couple of examples
    of 62,s YuK !

The centering is terrible on these so they would be allot less desirable, i would
Take an XF-45 in either of these of the higher counterparts.

Surprised that they even got a 62...must be grading "by the book" and elevating paper quality and sharp corners over an OBVIOUS miscentering.

I mean, on other bills I have to look at all 4 margins to see if one stands out but this is so easy to see. :wideyed:

I agree with the masses. Most notes 63-60 suffer from distractions, mostly in the form of skinny or uneven margins.

This note suffered so the notes both above this and below could have massive margins. This was cut from a BEP issued sheet.

I have yet to see a 60 in the MPC world, but have run across a couple of 61,s
If there,s anything that can go wrong in a gem note 61 is it ! if anybody has a
60 i would love to see it :)

What accounts for this glitch where AU 58's appear higher-quality (at least via initial eye appeal) than low-60's Mint States ?

You would think something so obvious like major miscentering would automatically drop a bill out of the MS category. Conversely, I'm not sure what is dropping off bills below MS into the AU's -- is the overall paper quality a bit less white ? A bit more worn ? Are 1 or maybe 2 of the corners not razor sharp, if not obviously worn ? Is there a crease or fold...and if so, if it's not that noticeable at first glance (esp. in a holder), why is it penalized more than a major printing error with horrible margins ?

To me, the AU vs. MS dichotomy is more easily seen with bills than with coins. With coins, you at least need to look closely at them for a few seconds if not longer....with some of these bills, like the one above, it's so obvious it takes a fraction of a second to see the glitch and wonder why it's not even lower graded.

FWIW...on my post above, my longest time collecting has been with Coins and I am accustomed to using Mint State and/or MS when referring to PMG/PCGS/Legacy grades of 60 and up. I'll try and use CU and/or GEM in the future as I have been informed that is the correct terminology. :D

    Thanks for your patience !

Were basically talking eye appeal here, anything between 60 - 63 as shown will
Have major alignment issues and that,s a big turn off for collectors ! on the
Other hand you A/U grades will have issues like corner bumps maybe a minor
Fold or two that is barely visible and still have near perfect alignment, as i said
Before i seek these out, anything in the 53 -58 range is good but its important
to have the PPQ or EPQ paper quality as well.

If a note is a PMG 66 and single digit pop I have seen major sellers in the biz price 2x cv or even much higher.

However I am skeptical they will realize that because beyond a certain price point buyers will thin out.

In researching a major seller in Florida I find Pop is also a factor. Top Pop and high grade notes can be as much as 5 times Krause CV (per his pricing) especially a Top Pop note with pop of just one.

So notes which are top pop, single digit pop (note grade and number higher), pop under 100, would also have individual tack ons for the pop piece to give a more balanced factor.

There are no bid values on something diverse like WPM like say coins in the CDN. The only real constant is Krause CV for a raw note which could be anything from CU 60 up.

Who is the Florida seller and how many notes is he selling at those prices?

What you have to understand is the word "GUIDE" it actually has very little
Meaning, i go to money shows all the time, and always have a few things to
Sale with me, especially some of the harder to get stuff, and people ask me
If i am looking to sale and i say sure, and then they pull out one of those guides
...LOL, notes are bought and sold over and over again, so those original prices
Dont really mean much for instance if it starts out at guide price of $100
and sales for that the next guy may need $125, the bottom line is everybody
Has to make a profit, well most of the time anyway :)

When you get into single digit pop notes the sky is the limit.

Your right on that, the currency green sheet which was printed each month
was a great resource until they went belly up ! because they were current
On everything, and even had a section on MPC, however it only went to 67
Anything over that you had to get a little creative.
