My latest acquisition came with a threatening note ...

I purchased a coin off of eBay and it arrived today. Usually I don't even look at the packing slips but I could see there was writing on the other side of this one so I took a look, and it turns out the seller was accusing me of doing something to try to cost him money. He didn't say what it was, and I certainly didn't do anything. At first I thought it had to do with sales tax, but my state doesn't collect tax on coins and I didn't think that would make sense. All I can figure is that some more expensive shipping option was selected, but I didn't do anything except hit the pay button. I never changed any settings and just made sure the amount was correct. It just really annoys me to receive this vaguely threatening letter when I'm just trying to buy a coin. I know I could leave bad feedback but I am very hesitant to do that. I did send the seller a message on eBay asking for an explanation. We'll see if he responds. The lesson here is don't assume other people are guilty of something when it could just be a technical glitch or the result of one of eBay's "improvements." P_20190916_224952_LL.jpg

ummmmm, very easy resolution. Let him block you! Or you block him, after you leave him negative feedback.

    That is an odd note.

Some items I have purchased do show multiple shipping options, but that requires the seller to set it up (for example, I've seen first class and priority both being options with the cost for priority being higher for the buyer).

Also, when printing the label, eBay shows sellers several options for shipping. However, it defaults to whatever the seller chose when setting up the listing.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hopefully it's just a misunderstanding.

If I were in your position I'd wait for his reply. Unless he offered free shipping it's hard to see how you would do anything where he would be charged more money. If the reply is unsatisfactory or there is no reply, I'd do what @masterswimmer suggested. There's no call for a rude, threatening, note like that without any explanation. (Even if there was an explanation).

Odds are I'd never buy from him again anyway as I don't buy many coins online anymore. I know there are a lot of ways I could handle it, including just ignoring it. I just wanted to share this experience as I was quite taken aback by it.

Leave no feedback. Never buy from him again. He sounds like he's talking about another auction and not yours.

Yes, I would be taken aback by it as well! :phantom: First the guy comes off as a smart a$$ and you don't even know what you did! If he doesn't come up with a legitimate response, I'd block his a$$ and never buy from him again! :D On ebay I've run into some very nice people but I've also run into other sellers who were trying to rip me off. Moral of the story is ebay has some real nutjobs on their site! :D

Yeah I use eBay often and I can't for the life of me figure out what he's talking about. A more expensive shipping option which he sets? Even if it were for another buyer, I don't understand what it would refer to.

Does not make any sense. Maybe the guy was so mad he lost his mind, and is ranting to the wrong person.

I would contact ebay, leave negative feedback, and then block the seller. What a whackjob.

I got a reply this morning: "I am very sorry. I get a bit scatterbrained at times. I do my best to avoid that pitfall. Please give me a second chance."

He never explains what he thinks I did. I don't know if this is his way of saying he has memory problems or if it's just he screwed up and is trying to make it sound like it's because he's old or something. It doesn't seem like I'll ever know what happened here. I was curious if I called him out if he'd apologize or double down on it though, and he chose to apologize at least.

I would not leave any feedback. The guy messed up. No need to stir the pot any more. I would buy from the guy again if he had something I really wanted.
