Apparently the hogs on the island were the salvation of shipwrecked and starving sailors, which is how they ended up being featured on coins.
We went to Bermuda twice, some years back. It was beautiful, the people were nice. I would have loved to live there, but toooo far from family and quite pricey. Thanks for sharing some history, very interesting.
I'd love to swing a metal detector there, for obvious reasons. Those early-1600s "Hogge Money" coins are worth some big bucks, even though they're almost always found in really wretched condition.
