Just my $.05 worth, but for some odd reason I think 2008 will be a good year to set a couple rolls away. The year is almost half over and production is: 143.04 M for 2008-D 58.80 M for 2008-P The D is basically at 1/6 of last years production, and the P.. well 1/10th, and I don't think it's going to increase much more. For $2.00 at the bank, I don't think you can go wrong with hoarding a few rolls... :smile Ebay is selling them for basically $1.50 each..not including shipping.
The odds are good that if you think so everyone else will too. Plus you have to figure a few people are just getting boxes of coins to set aside and a few of these will be brand new coins. This couldn't be widespread or there would be a nickel shortage. If metals prices don't come down or the mint act soon we could be heading to a small catastrophe: the inability to make change in stores. In the '60's this would have been a major problem but the nickel is worth so little now that stores would just incur the loss and give excess change. You could be right and saving a few is a good idea just to see. The last really good (high price) nickel roll was 1997. There are probably a few good ones since but they haven't gone up yet.
Hello, You can generally ask the bank you deal with for brand new mint rolls. If they have them, they will sell them to you. Good Luck!
