Hey everyone is this a small date and how do you tell if it's bronze, copper or zinc? On reverse are thoes die breaks that seem to be suspending the Lincoln memorial from both corners?
I can tell ya from looking it is a Zincoln. But if you can't tell from looking, try weighing it. A Zincoln will weigh 2.5g and a Copper cent will weigh 3.1g. As for the reverse, yes those are die cracks. Good eye catching em. They are very common in those positions on LMCs.
It's a small date 1982 D copper plated zinc. You can tell by the weight of the coin. Copper plated zinc weighs 2.5 grams and the copper coin weighs 3.1 grams. On your coin the obverse has a lot of plating blisters, which happens a lot on the copper plated zinc coins. The obverse and reverse has a few spots where the copper looks like it's worn off and the zinc is showing through. The best test is the weight.
Thanks for the information because trying to tell the difference is really been difficult for me. Now that I have one to compare otgers to it should get easier...I hope...lol
I agreed with above, its a small date, but it's Zinc not Copper. For the die crack (aka split plating post 1982 cent) when the strike pressure is strong, this happens. You can see it on the outside edges on devices and the Memorial building. The die crack as mentioned is common on the edges of the Memorial.
Sorry my dyslexia saw this as "This is a small date" So I neglected to answer that part. Now that you got one in your hands the difference kinda smacks ya in the face doesn't it!!
