No, Lady all the way. At the good age of 9 my parents took us to the Kettle River, Sandstone, Minnesota( where I grow up) Oh! read the story about the Geat Hinckley Fire, My Great grandfather William Jones became history in that one. Back to the story, My parents loved to fish so at the river I got a cane pole and caught my first sunfish and been hooked ever since. I love the oudoors, I think Stephen is Lucky to find someone that likes the same thing as him. Cheryl
women...... i am surprised that there aren't more women coin collectors. every time i walk in to a bank i wonder this also because the majority of the employees are female! you'd think more of THESE women, in particular, would have the "bug"! how the heck could they work with coins every day and not get a rush? for me it just does not compute.
Maybe more ladies would collect coins if our coin designs weren't just so pugly. */ ducks for cover....
Fishin' for sunfish with a cane pole. I grew up in Minnesota in the '70s and YES!!!! You actually caught fish like sunfish, bullheads and crappies using only a cane pole. Goodness gracious, that brought back memories I hadn't thought about for years. Can you even buy a cane pole today? I'm guessing my parents didn't have enough money to buy "real" setups and thats what we used. But it WORKED! As far as women collectors, etc. What is the PROBLEM? Go to a scrap booking forum and start counting the number of men. I don't think you'll find too many. In addition, WHY do we need women? or Gays? or Blacks? or Asians? or Whites? or Americans? or Rednecks? To be honest, I find the thread a bit offensive. Sniff. Sniff. (I'm joking, but part of me says: Offensive). My black (African born) wife has absolutely zero, zero, zero interest in coins. There have been days (and weeks) when over 100 mercury dimes or barber quarters have been spread out over our dining room table and she says nothing. She justs accepts it and she doesn't steal a stray mercury for the parking meter. NOTE: We don't use our dining room table for anything.... Collect what you like and when you go to your next coin show, do a survey if this bothers you!!!!
One of these days I'm gonna tell y'all a really wonderful coin story about a future wymyn... my cute little 5 year old niece Laura. Until then... SUSPENSE !!!
Yes you can still buy cane Poles. We had all the rod and reels they used today but my mother loved to fish with the cane pole. For me I wanted to be around girl, lady and women, I can't speak for all women but fishing is still number one then other things like coin collecting, sewing cooking. I think women go in stages, this is just one more I can have to my belt. Cheryl
Cane poles rule !!!! Nothing like bluegills on a cane pole, bobber and a worm, the little suckers fight !!!! Wonder why Jean Kay has not posted yet??
Cheryl - Gosh. You got one lucky husband. I think that each needs their own interests, but if both parents are into something like fishing, that's absolutely AWESOME for the kids. Great family outing. The parents are into it. So on and so forth.......... My wife loves EATING the fish I catch - but not much luck getting her to the lake...... BACK ON TOPIC (yeah - right) I think we can talk about how the "Women of CoinTalk" let us post here each night. How they are understanding (or not!!). Personally, my wife collects clothes and shoes and is an Avon salesperson. I wonder if they talk about how there are very few men who sell Avon (or maybe there are bunches and bunches).....?????
Women and fish collecting or is it coins? May as well jump into the fishing discussiion. My wife grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN. Every October her parents pulled her and her sister out of school for a week to go perch fishing in Lake Erie. We took our honeymoon in the Upper Peninsula of Mighigan. Stayed in a cabin on a lake. Walleye and perch were hitting. Been married 19 years and still go there when we can. Last trip she caught her first smallmouth bass! Still doesn't collect coins though.
Stephen and I took our honeymoon 5 years ago at Lake Champlain and cought Large salmon. 3 years ago we took a trip to Lake Ouachita, Arkansas and I got a 28 pound Striper Bass (made into a thropy). Nov.2007 went to the White river in Arkansa and got Rainbow trout ( small ones) still like coin collecting.
Laura - Phoenix & Magmans suspicions are correct.. I'm a woman coin geek and post here regularly but I've been out this week - Clembo actually PM'd me and asked me why I wasn't chiming in on this thread. I'm into all of it - US & World coins, US bullion & rare or key dates, hoarding, accumulating & speculating and sometimes just the pure study of numismatics which is why I come here. I have 'some' nice older currency but my collection is 99% coins and of that 99% probably 80% of it is silver, the rest is gold, I've yet to get my first platinum or pallidium coin. I have my own grey sheet account, understand the premiums of coin value vs ebay, and belong to the ANA. I've submitted my own coins to PCGS, NGC and ANACS but for some reason my husband cannot fathom I prefer raw gold over slabbed. My husband is a collector too but mostly US. I am friends with several real 'brick & mortar' coin store dealers so I get to hang out with them and have learned a lot from there as well as this forum. I love coins!
I'm also planning on making my 3 month old niece a coin nut,and hoping for the day I can make my ( future grandchild , boy or girl ) a certified coin person , collector . Hope that was politicaly correct. rzage
You must be kidding. Try asking a cab driver if he wants to just go for a drive for fun. Try asking a auto machanic if he wants to work on his own car every night after work. OK so your work at McDonalds and your parents tell you for your birthday they want to take you to McDonalds.
I'm female and new to coins. I have posted a few times here. So far I really enjoy coins but I have decided that it is more of a winter hobby for me than a warm weather one. I keep putting interesting coins in my desk but probably won't put a lot of time into looking at them or reading about coins for a few months. The best thing about this new hobby has been getting AEs from the mint. They are now my favorite gift to give to people for special occasions and big birthdays. Everyone loves them. This is the time of year that I like to grow tomatoes and flowers, hike, and to be outside. However, I do enjoy reading this board and learning new things and that will continue reading through out the year.
