That is what I though too, here is the front of the coin.
I knew there was not ever a 72 DDR but, some of the areas looked a little confusing to me ;) Anything on the front?

When you say, "see if any match up," does that mean 'any pics' can ID or all in the set have to be the same? Thank you!

From the way I understand this, it has to match pretty much all the way.

Die markers have to look exactly like what is pictured. When they say a "die scratch" for example it really has to be going in the same exact direction and be the same length..not just "close". What I do too is look at the doubling to see what direction its going. For example,,, is the listed doubling going toward the north, south, east or west or some direction in between? Ive had some that look so similar to the pictures but then discover after looking closer that its doubled in the wrong direction. The error will always be in the exact same direction...the doubled die doesnt "change" direction after a few coins. Its set and thats why you can look at the chart on the bottom of a Variety Vista year and they estimate coin populations. Thats a really neat thing to look at and consider...especially when you look up how many millions of a certain coin of a certain year and mint were created. There may be 50 documented coins out there for 600,000,000 produced. Its sort of a reality check lol. To me its a an efficient way to quickly eliminate "possibilities". Having said all that, yes, Im taking the risk of tossing aside some undiscovered new variety since Im no good at being able to identify REAL double dies on my own. I also realize the chances of me having a new variety are so stupid slim that if I took time to try and see that on every coin, I would have absolutely no fun doing this.

I like those sites because you can quickly eliminate at least "known varieties" so you dont waste your time on worthless doubling or waste the time of volunteers here that examine finds for us. You can quickly and easily see what your coin "is not". Truth is, real DDs are so stinking rare that I keep any kind of "error" that I think is cool, unique or different anyway. Even PMD if its interesting. coins with zero extra premium or value. Most people dont do that but we are all different.

Most important... I wrote alot here I generally wouldnt over my last 3 years of part time doing this hobby. If Im wrong about the way I use VV and Wexlers, a mentor/experienced hobbiest will speak up and correct me.

Thanks Matrix, I really appreciate all your time, and information! I have been on Variety Vista a few times before, and was not sure if "every example pic had to match up" too to the 'variety in question', so thank you for clarifying that up. I have been really trying to learn a lot these fast couple of years, and have I have invested a lot of time into reading, and learning as much as my lil brain can take in lol. I still have a hard time with doubled dies. Although I have watched, and read how coins are minted on multiple occasions, it still doesn't truly sink in all the way....lol
Notches, sheriffs, fat, skinny, N, S, E W...and then there is the ole MD that gets me too! ;)

I have been purchasing silver for quit some time so, I reckon instead of looking for a needled in a hay stack, I will focus more on work so, I can just purchase silver for weight. I know it is going to go back up eventually! How high, hmm... I guess we all shall just wait and see but, I am going to acquire as much as I can while it is still somewhat reasonable...Not sure if we will see like we did before but, I do "think" we will see 28 maybe 30 within 10 years. Possibly sooner.... So what is your favorite coin to collect?
Mine are Morgans! Love them and lately have been reading and studying about VAM's. (personally I can match them up a little easier then Doubled Dies...Thanks again for your time! Hope you are having a good day!

You probably know more then me thats for sure! I wish I had more time to devote to this as well. I took more of the entertainment path once I got interested. I enjoy the "hunt" and the research itself I guess. I should do like you and spend a few bones on something of an investment. I seen in the "sell" section here that I think it was Furryfrog has an awesome deal on silver quarters right now.

Not sure if I have enough time spent here....to actively look and "reply" on the sale pages or wanted pages...I guess I need to spend more time here first? Not sure... I tried to go there the other day and I couldn't even reply...Look any silver coins!!!! =D

Thanks! Yes, & looks like 1-2 more behind it too. Still getting things settled from Dorian and put back to normal. Was thankful when that one finally turned North. Could not imagine a 5 hitting the East Coast and then sticking around for 36 or more hours.

Anyway, thank you again for all of your help! Still don't know about the Kennedy's... I have a ton of them, that I have put up and I guess I need to go through them again while on variety vista or the other link above so I can double check them all. My grandpa gave me a lot of those in really nice condition.

I was just reading some above....and dang autocorrect, I was like,"what was I saying" ;)

I have a lot of these from the 60's and since I do have so many, I'm concluding that MD has to be the answer. (I still hold all of them just in case though).

Yes, it is still a pretty coin and I will always keep that one. It has a nice eye appeal too. My crappy coin taking microscope was too short to really get full pics of the larger coins, finally found an extension for it =D I have a few more Kennedys I might need some help with.
