hi i have recently found this coin while metal detecting if anyone could tell me what coin it is it would be very gratefully appreaited regards
How many times do you need to post the same coin? Your new obverse photo is harder to use for attribution purposes than the previous one. The answer is the same. It’s an Edward I, II or III. In this condition, the coin is worth very little. It is a “junk box” type coin that is sold for a few dollars. I have a worn and flat Edward I that is worth less than $40.
Here is an Edward I penny. I bought this one for $20 some years ago. It might be worth $30 now. I bought this one for less than $100 within the past couple of years. The "X" over the portrait is from the cross on the reverse of the piece. The coin was made that way.
@lordmarcovan has a very nice 1. Great Britain (England): silver groat of Henry VI, first reign, Calais mint, ca. 1422-1461, from the Reigate Hoard found in Surrey Is this the same as the OP's denomination ? Nope different.
@spirityoda - similar design, but groats are fourpence pieces, so closer to the diameter of a US quarter, whereas the medieval pennies are closer in diameter to a US cent. I dug an Edward I penny in Essex, UK, when I was on a weeklong detecting trip there. Chances are, that's probably what the OP has.
