Yes of course. Here it is. I really like it, despite the pitting. The portrait is clear, sharp, and the details of the horse on the back are very nice too. In hand it almost looks like a golden coin, the color is really nice. Trajanus, dupondius, Rome, 104/5 - 107 AD, 27 mm, 11,48 gr IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP COS V PP, radiate head right, aegis on left shoulder SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI S-C, Trajan riding right spearing Dacian enemy RIC 539
Oh, that is a lovely coin @Limes! Just the kind I like! Thank you for posting it. The coloration is indeed great - orichalcum at its best. The depiction of Trajan and his horse on the Reverse is one of the nicest I have seen.
Have you checked already if that green spot is bronze disease? Looks like it might have been treated for it before in the past, judging from the pitting.
Thanks for the tip, good spotting!. It is BD indeed. Could pick it straight off. In de DW it now sits, waiting for better days. Its a small spot, so i think this treatment should do the trick. And than put it in a closed holder.
In a moment of weakness I recently purchased the following coin despite announcing that my purchasing days were over …………… AUGUSTUS AS, TITUS RESTORATION ISSUE, 80-81 AD (27mm, 10.71 gm) BMCRE Volume II, Rome, Titus No. 275 (pl. 54.5) RIC Volume II, Part 1 (second edition), Titus, No. 462 Obverse depiction: Augustus, radiate head facing left Inscription: DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER Reverse depiction: Eagle with wings spread standing on Globe Inscription: IMP T CAES AVG RESTITVIT - S C (above, left and right) ………………… I like Titus Restoration coins and this is a nice one. The inscriptions are clear and complete and the overall condition is what I like. Of course, purchasing this coin means I had to bump one of the “Twenty” off my list - but that is another story that I will rationalize somehow. .
James, I enjoyed reading about your very nice "top 20" coins. Agree with Limes' comment on the deep green patina on the Trajan sestertius - amazing. His dupondius version is also attractive.
Thank you for taking the time to write that, Carl. I am sure those who followed my original “top twenty” post now notice several new coins - still twenty, but a somewhat different population ………….. https://jp29.org/twenty.htm …………… what happened? Well, I couldn’t resist the urge to include a couple of Titus Restoration coins and some Claudius Countermarked coins - all at the expense of my English Civil War coins (Charles I, et al). Those coins now reside in an Abafil chest and are expendable. I like my current “top twenty” coin selection better - and they are now all Roman Imperial (except for the Imperatorial Julius Caesar denarius, that is).
I know exactly what you mean. This week I sold 3 or 4 coins and then purchased 3. That's no way to reduce my collection. But, like you said, I couldn't resist the temptation.
Well done Bing! I like people who live life with gusto and march to a different drummer - and have character flaws …………… just like me!
