Here is a 1945-D. I appreciate your opinions and comments. Here is the obverse: Here is the reverse: Here is another of the obverse of the coin sitting in my album: That last one, despite the glare, shows some of the shine and color of this coin. None of these photos capture the excellent luster of this coin. I'm still working on the photography thing. Thanks.
Hard to say from your pics but I would say MS-63 tops. The big ding on the eagle's wing should keep it from 64.
Interesting observations. The scratch on the obverese and ding on the reverse aren't really that obvious in hand, unless it is under magnification.
Scratches and dings do not reduce the grade to AU. An uncirculated coin can have bag marks, scratches, and other defects due to jostling against other coins in the bag they're shipped in.
As noted difficult to really do to much accurate rating but my guess is only about MS-60. However, that is based on the fact that per the photo it is difficult to see the left hand clearly and some of the starts appear well worn. The scratch doesn't bother me it's just that this coin does appear to have to much wear to be higher than a 60.
I would have to say AU on this coin because of the slightest wear of the center gown lines towards the center of the coin and some of that area appears to show slight wear. These lines should be sharper more defined, just my opinion. This is a beautiful coin. I'd love to have this one in my collection. Thanks for sharing! Allen
