Thank you. Am new at this... Are die cracks valuable in any way? I guess it's not an error so not valuable?
Seconded to a die crack. Likely 25-50 cents in a dealers odds and ends bin. If a dealer would even do this.
AFAIK, die cracks are considered "errors" or "varieties" although they seldom command big bucks, nice die crack
Agree with all above. It's a die crack. These were very common on wheat cents and you're not likely going to get any value from it unless you sell on eBay, and even then, it would probably cost more to ship than you'd make off of it.
I have a 1953 D that has some serious errors/damage? The penny is bent and has strange diamond shape marks from maybe a tool or something.
Usually better to start your own post, but in this instance the coin isn't worth it. This is what is called PMD (Post Minting Damage).
you need to start your own threads for posts. but yes (a) it's bent (not from the mint but done sometime after that (b) has tool marks on it (once again, not from the mint but sometime after that). which both are damage. Those diamond marks are very consistent with the marks from a can opener. We had a thread here a while back on it and I tested it and duplicated the diamond marks with a can opener. The other marks on the head, shoulder and rim could be from the same can opener just other parts of it and slippage.
