I really like the green/gold/russet tone around the obv. portrait; my Vermont commem has almost identical toning on both sides. I wonder what storage conditions led to this?
Nice examples all! Snagged this piece for my Mint Set. Normally I prefer some color but this is one tough coin. POP 32/0/10/1.
Thanks, I’m grateful to have acquired that walker from @C-B-D. Been on the lookout for awhile for one with attractive toning.
Lovely Walker, which absolutely deserves the star ... that’s probably the nicest circulated MS64 coin I’ve ever seen
I can’t say I wasn’t warned. The seller said “An area on the left side of the reverse has lost its luster, but otherwise the appearance is amazing!” What’s really going on with the left side of the wreath? If it’s PMD wouldn’t such a big impact also smash up the obverse? Is this a struck-through? Would that make it a valuable error or just a Details grade?
Thanks. It’s probably an 1835/4 overdate, but wasn’t attributed as such. I think I’ll start a GTG thread for this one...
I’d like to know the answer to this as well. Was there some corrosion or other anomaly that was cleaned away on that area? @Paddy54 @C-B-D ?
I think there is more detail there than the photo conveys. If that’s the case, then I believe the coin is a victim of PVC damage in the area of concern.
Here's a great civil war token I recently acquired. I'd put it at XF/AU with great die cracks, blobs, and other character adding this and that. Thoughts?
Nice token!! I always check these for the “spoot” spelling error, and eventually I’ll buy one when the price is right. Here’s the last CWT I picked up
I rotated the coin under the lights to get better depth in this area. This is pretty close to the best resolution I can get, so be sure to expand it for details. It does reveal some re-engraving and delicate die scratches, as well as blue and red toning on top of the affected area. Could it have been PVC damaged and still have that coloring survive?
I say struck thru grease, but must admit this call would be a firmer answer if I had the coin in hand as to make a call from an image.
