Going back to the OP coin. There are various ADVENTVS legends used with Probus. It is thought that the ADVENTVS PROBI AVG legend is celebrating the arrival of Probus as the city issuing the coin. ADVENTVS AVG types are thought to be less specific about the actual arrival of the emperor at this city. As I have already shown above, I have a bit of an interest in this type. I also have a particular leaning towards Lugdunum (I have no idea why!). I will share some coins that are believed to add to the historical story of Probus. This first coin comes from a short issue made to commemorate Probus travelling through Lugdunum at the start of the summer of A.D. 277 travelling with his army from Asia to battle in the Rhine. The coins from Lugdunum up to this point all have quite plain Radiate, cuirassed busts. The portrait style of this coin is entirely consistent with the other coins from the same issue, which is used to confirm the dating. The next coins come from an issue dated to End A.D. 277 to Early A.D. 278. These coins are thought to celebrate the successful return of the emperor to Lugdunum after defeating the Gauls in the Rhine on his way back to Rome. Lugdunum introduced a whole host of much more elaborate bust types for this celebratory issue. The issues incorporates a range of other reverses that reinforce the political message that Probus has successfully defeated the Gauls. ABVNDANTIA AVG MARS VICTOR TEMPOR FELICI VIRTVS AVG I like trying to place the coins into some historical context
