Just got this new coin (it was cheap, and I probably had too much Bourbon that night, whatever).

How many steps do you see?

And, unofficially, what would you grade it? (this one won't count towards my tally)

I'll thrown in though I'm far from an expert. I can only see five steps and the marks leave me at a 64. But I also don't know the history on how well these were made in general and how the TPG would grade. Also, that spot at the E in EPU does not look good. Am I even close?

    I count 5 full steps.
MS64 just too many little scratches on it to grade higher.

64PL 5FS Bacon+*! The reverse holds it back, for a change.

I see maybe a 10 steps (in the future).:D:hilarious:

Seriously, very nice specimen & depending on the cost, I would probably have made the deal. Unfortunately, the 3 dings on the bottom step (apparent to me, anyway) I think would cost it the "FS" designation.

I usually do not do GTG (mostly because I have a problem with pics; also, I'm pretty tough, subjectively) but this time I'll go:

    63 (no FS)

I see 6, but 2 appear to be broken so I'm going with 4 full steps.

    Grade guess: MS 64 PL

What's special about steps, don't they all have that when made.

No, they don't. And that's why they're special.

As many of you have identified, this is a Prooflike coin.

If you know me, this shouldn't come as a surprise ;)

Sorry...disagree...the obverse is 63, and the reverse is barely maintaining a 60, but 5FS, there are contact marks on steps 1, 3 and 5/6...but the horizontal lines between 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 are not occluded. The line between steps 5 and 6 is broken/occluded.

    JMHO...from the provided pix...Spark

Do you count treads or risers. If the top riser has a nosing then the porch floor would be considered a tread. I say 6 treads some need repair. I would add a nice hand rail. Oh and jimmy dean sausage.

So y'all are saying you disagree?

Yeah... me too. I'm disappointed in this one. I personally grade it 64 5FS PL.

You weren't the only one drinking bourbon while looking at this coin. Maybe it was graded during the NGC Christmas party.

Ah, the danger of bidding with a mouse in one hand and a drink in the other.
