Well I will never complain about having to count the drawers down before I clock on at work again. It's not the best IHC but it is a 113 year old coin in circulation.
Man, all these Indian cents appearing in circulation! Crazy! That's one heckuva cool find for one cent! I have never gotten an Indian cent in circulation. Only obsolete designs I've gotten in change are Buffalo nickels and Wheat cents.
many thousands of dollars searching and I find this IHC I am not sure how much went into circulation lol.
I'm glad to see this happening. Fun to find. I've found a lot of them, but, I started searching in 1948. I haven't found one for, perhaps, 50 years.
Great find! I used to average 1 every $800 searched but It has been ages now since I’ve seen one. Glad they’re still out there.
I spent 5 years trying to find an IH metal detecting. A year ago a woman was interested in learning about MDing and asked to see me “in action”. I took a machine to the area between her sidewalk and the street and said if we were lucky I might find a penny or two. BAM! A hard penny signal up against the sidewalk. It was so shallow I could see the outline. I picked it up and handed it to her and said it was her first treasure. She looked at it and said, “Cool! 1887!”. I said, “you mean 1987, right?” She said, “Nope!” My first IH and I gave it away.
I think many older coins are showing up due to the dump made during the Great American Coin week. I personally put a number of older coins back into circulation.
What a great find! That has only happened to me a few times when I worked retail and I was smiling from ear to ear.
Nearly 90% of the IHC's I have in my collection, I took out of circulation as I was growing up. I thought they were cool then and still do. But this was back when collecting coins was affordable and fun. Today, you gotta be either rich or be in clubs where you can swap coins to build your collection.
Great find! I know a guy who's been searching for 20 years and never found an IHC! Of course he only searches halves.
Nice find! I haven't found one on a CRH event for quite some time (although I haven't been CRH). I did find one lying on the ground (1905) and another metal detecting (1867), but those are lucky finds. Good luck on the hunt folks!
My 36 + years of Metal Detecting has done me quite well I’m happy to say. I getting older but I still “Swing”, many many days from sunup to sundown! And if your into metal detecting you’ll know there is something good to be said about “slowing down”, Lol But anyway, my IHC finds have been many throughout the years. I must say, my all around absolutely best State for finding IHC has and seems to remain in Nebraska? I get around a lot to detect various places and have been rewarded warmly with discoveries. One of my neatest finds was 6 IHC, 2 Wheat Cents, all were in the same plug and the coins had been stacked together. The 6 in the middle are in absolute beautiful condition.
One local coin shop had a "Free" box in the middle of the room filled with old supplies and stuff. On the bottom was a '07 IHC in solid VG. Cool find for me. I still wish I had found some in circ like the OP.
I donated a 40+ roll of good or better V nickels, F or better Buffalos, and a few very early Jeffersons to my LCS in Louisville to give to youngsters in change for purchases... thought that would be a quick way to get them in the right hands.
I've nearly ran out of places to detect near me. Most people will not or do not want a stranger on their property and public land is becoming a thing of the past here.
If my memory serves me this is #4 I have found working retail but my memory is not what it use to be.
I will not assume your age but I would love to have been alive in the 60's and at collecting age in the 70's seems like thats when some of the cooler finds were readily available in roll searching.
