Hello everyone! For those of us who have old coins with no dates shown because they are so worn out, are there experts who can tell a date just by looking at some parts of a coin and get close to a possible year it was made? This would be amazing! Just curious, appreciate your help.
I've posted pictures of two different coins, first coin shown - numbers are 565, 569, 577 Second coin are rest of pictures.
    Thank you

Both are Type II, 1917 or later. Unless you are a physic, good luck with a date.

They're pretty likely to be between 1917 and 1924. From 1925 on, the date was recessed (the "type 3" @Clawcoins mentioned), and didn't wear off quite as quickly.

Sometimes you can, most times you can't. If you refer to your Red Book you will see what SchwVB57 and jeffb are referring to.

You're welcome. We can usually learn better by visual aids so hopefully the Red Book will help. :)

As worn as these coins are maybe a date restorer
would help. with the use of a date restorer like the one used for
Buff Nickels would do the trick. In the shape they're in they
are worth bullion so no numismatic harm will occur.

I don't think Nic-a-date works on silver coins.

Yeah, we've gone round and round for years on the topic of restoring dates to silver coins. One member said he had good luck with white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, but others had a hard time reproducing it. The metallurgical stuff ("work hardening") that makes etching work so well on copper-nickel coins doesn't happen nearly as much when coin silver is struck.

Never heard of a date restorer for coins, going to give it a try. Will this work on pennies too? If not would you have any suggestions on what I could use on pennies? I have this penny with just the 19 showing but can't see the rest of date. If you can zoom in on picture 427 you can almost see the number 4. This is such a great site to get help which sometimes are silly questions, but you experts are a great resource. Thank you again!

Nic-A-Date only works on nickels to my knowledge.

I've used date restorer products as the one mentioned.
On silver it was with very limited success. I would not mention
by name any product on this or any other forum. If the thread
turns negative toward the product the manufacturing company
could make life very difficult for the admin. here. Could be
considered libel/slander. Over on the CU forum they remove
    said threads. just sayin'.
