Hello all just wanted to ask a question here from you all. More specifically is what would be a normal time frame to you all for an auction house to ship your coins once they are paid for? Do you think 10 days with no response is ok ? Just wanting to put my self at ease with the large amount of money (to me anyway) that I spent. Thanks everyone !
What was the auction house? Some are large groups who can respond automatically, but some are just a one man operation and may need time.
I would rather not mention them at this point. Just felt that 10 days was sufficient to at least get them put in the mail. So that being said is this pretty much the norm for most ?
No. That is certainly not the norm. Usually the good ones will let you know within a day or 2. I recently purchased from a brand new auction house. And hadn't received any communication from them for about a week (I wonder if it is the same one you are waiting on). So I emailed them and they got back to me the next day letting me know the status of my items. You may want to reach out to them at this point. Best of luck.
Are you talking about CNG by chance? I purchased something in the e-auction 2 weeks ago, paid promptly and then haven't heard anything since then. It's pretty standard for some auctions but not standard for CNG in the 5 years or so I've been buying from them. I haven't contacted them yet but I probably will be shortly if I don't hear anything since they've now had another auction close without shipping the prior auction's lots.
I've had auction houses take up to a week to issue an invoice. I've also had auction PO's and other correspondence end up in my junk mail and go unnoticed. Sometimes they will ship your coin and not notify you or give tracking info, but then the coin just shows up in the mail. While vast majority of auction houses have good service overall, there are a couple who seem habitually slow.. On average, invoice within a few days, shipped within a few more. After a week I'm going to initiate contact.
It's all over the place. Within a week is the most usual but two to three weeks is normal in some environment especially European auctions. So long as I get an acknowledgement of my purchase within a week, I usually give them a couple weeks grace from the point I send the payment. One might wish it is faster, but no point wishing what you can't get. Also depends in auction size. I can imagine when an auction house has a 2000 lot auction, it takes some time to reconcile a thousand or more different payments and sort and check and package the physical coins. Then there's postage time, and possibly customs delays etc. I tend to get antsy if I haven't received coins 3 weeks after paying. The coins have waited 2000 years for you. So long as I'm sure I won the lot I don't mind waiting a few weeks to get hold of them.
You are doing OK. My longest wait on record between payment and shipping is a year and a half. I actually merrily shared the coins here on CT without realizing I hadn't received them, then I went to pull one out of the bank one day...
I would expect the big ones to get you items out to you within a day or so after you payment has cleared. If you pay by check, you can see when the check has cleared on-line. As others have said, small operations can take longer because they don’t have the staff. I buy from a political items dealer who is like that. I know it’s going to take 10 days for me to get the items because the company consists of him and a helper.
Well I sent an email last Sunday if my coins had shipped, I still have not heard anything from them as of this Sunday. It has been 16 days since I paid for the coins now.
I am sorry to hear that. If they stiff you, check with the management, but I think that you should publicize the name of the firm here.
It can vary from 5 days to 4 weeks. I had one coin that was postmarked Jan. 15/ it FINALLY arrived 6 weeks later It was probably stuck in customs/ pot office????
I understand that there can be problems after they ship the coins that is out of their control. The problem is that they have not responded to my email and have provided no shipping details. They provided them on my previous purchase with them.
