1999 p dime color

    Can someone tell me what makes a dime the color of a penny? It was in with my pennies as the color blended pretty well with them.

    Likely just some environmental toning after being around for 20 years.

    The clad layer is composed of Cupro-Nickel. There is copper mixed with nickel. the copper has darkened due to exposure to the elements.

    Thank you all for the answers Ive never seen a dime like this. Its similar to either a penny or Sacajawea in person.
