After WWII, Barter Stores were established in Berlin and Frankfurt to facilitate trade between US personnel and German citizens. Germans and GIs brought items to the Barter Stores where they received "barter units" which could be used to purchase other items in the store. The value in barter units was determined by an appraiser based on the pre-war value of the Reichsmark. While all of the notes are rare, the notes from the Berlin Store are more scarce than those from Frankfurt. The following note was issued for the Frankfurt Store.
