A vanishing L? Well that's a new one. However it's just a common circulated Wheat Cent. The vanishing L as you call it was caused by a grease or debris field die. This is a very common occurrence an older as well as modern coins.
Funny name that popped into my head. Nothing serious meant by it. Also was not poking fun just wanted to see in anyone knew anything or seen one! I appreciate the info. -JR
The die that struck this coin was well worn. Note how all the word/letters at the edge of your coin seem to roll up away from the field of the coin. This is due to excessive wear on the edge of the die.
I just learned something yet again. I see coins alot that have that "roll up". In my feeble little brain, it looks like a skate ramp on some coins its so pronounced. I didnt realize that was from a worn die/
