Hello fellow coin peeps! I have a group of Jefferson Nickels (Twenty - 40's & Twenty Three - 50's, and Three - 39's) and I am going to sell them on eBay and I was wondering if I should sell them as one whole lot or subdivide them into two lots with the 40's in one and the 50's in the other? Thanks! :smile P.S. There are no rare coins (over dates, war time, etc) in this lot.
one lot to reduce shipping costs to any potential buyer,as it is only ever so slightly better than pocket change. anybody buying it is pretty much a sucker to pay the shipping,IMO !
If you want to be conservative, keep the 3 "39's". But sell the rest as a group. I'm guessing there are people who make a lot of money on Jeffies, but if you're just dabbling and want to get rid of some stuff - just do it. Personally, I like Jeffersons and I actively collect, but general advice if you don't have the "hot" coins - try to sell.
I recently listed (twice) a set of book 1 jeffs minus the war nickels and the key and semi-key dates. I listed them at close to face plaus a whitman folder, and I didn't get a single bite. If you sell, let me know, because I would really love to get these sets to a good home and I could use all the advice that I can get.
Um.... A set of Jeffs minus the war coins minus the keys and minus the semi-keys is only worth face value. If all the coins are UNC or BU that would raise the price. IMHO try to sell them now - I don't see anything happening with Jeffersons for quite some time - especially the "non-common" dates that you list in your original post.
Need salesman approach. State rare coins with famous ex President's face on them. Mention famous building on the reverse. Note the odd, smooth rounded shape.
Oh Balogna. If people don't want them they won't bid no matter what kind of hype. I have 5 partial sets that I don't dare try to sell on ebay. I'll just end up paying a listing fee for a no sale.
I think Jeffersons are under rated. Unfortunately this does not make them sell unless they are keys or nice BU coins. Save your ebay fees and keep or spend them IMHO. Unfortunate but true.
you guys are spot on! I ended up paying listing fees (twice!) and I am serious, not a bite, not an inquiry, nada. Clembo is right. you are selling nice BU coins, or keys or semi-keys, they will sell. Otherwise, Jeffersons are underrated, undervalued and IMHO underappreciated. BTW, Victor, I think Carl was being sarcastic.
Don't forget to describe them as UNSEARCHED!!!!!!!!!!! (use a size 2400 font for higher bids) and state how you found them in basement of the West Point mint when they hired you on to help dust the crawlspace right before the big Easter Dinner they have every other year there.
I'd make up 1 roll of what you have.. you might get more for a roll than a collection or individual nickels.
Yes it was in jest for sure. The pathetic thing is that eBay still collects fees even though the item does not sell. Then they urge you to relist so they can clip you again on the same coin.
