So far all of my pics have just been taken with an Iphone 6, which can take pretty good pictures But i decided to try an actual camera... I bought a used FZ80 + a Raynox DCR 250 lens, for a total of a little bit under $300.. Idk if it is the best choice for coin photographs, but it has 60x optical zoom Lots of different buttons and settings, so i still have to try to figure out what they all do.. but here are some of my first pics of what i managed to do so far.. A new dichalkon from Larissa A new Aspendos Stater. (taken with my iphone) + a gif i made by making a video + zooming all the way in..
Incredible close ups!! Also is that how you usually shoot your coins... coin standing upright? Would love to see your whole setup - very interesting.
most of my older pics were taken with my holding the phone in my hand and the coin elevated on something like this.. Here is a picture of the set-up i used this time to get the close up pictures. I placed the camera on the table, i tried added the camera phone for light later on Left pic is with camera flashlight for extra light, with no extra light on the right ( just the light from the lamp above)
nice looking pics @arnoldoe ! The toning on your first pic looks great, I have a hard time capturing that on any coin!
I see a few spots of less than perfect focus. Perhaps one f/stop smaller aperture (larger f/number) would help.
nice pictures! that set up is also pretty simple, but the results are very nice. I've been struggling with pictures too. Too much light, too little light. I like the idea of the phone giving some addition lighting.
