And what about this patera from the 3rd Century AD made with 16 very rare aurei of : Caracalla Marcus Aurelius Faustina the young (wife of Marcus Aurelius) Antoninus Pius Geta Commodus Faustina the older (wife of Antoninus Pius) Septimius Severus Caracalla Antoninus Pius Faustina the older Antoninus Pius Commodus Septimius Severus Julia Domna (wife of Septimius Severus) Hadrian
I do the same thing to show off. Except, I am poor so I just drill holes through Lincoln cents and string them through some pipe cleaners
With a provenance and antiquity like that; I would be hard pressed to ever remove the aureii. Even though they're some of the finest I've seen. Into a display box it would go. Amazing piece of jewelry/history.
I agree 100% and would love to own either piece here just as they are: filled with history. Jewelry from the 1800's using coins should not be broken down unless the damage is unrepairable. We have many gold ancients because they did time in jewelry. Their brothers were melted.
Are they actual coins? Given the fine detail of the rest of the object they may just look like embedded coins.

An interesting selection of emperors, and what look like rather nice coins. It would be a travesty to break apart the necklace.
There are some similar pieces of jewelry in the Met in NYC. Actually the Met has a lot of ancient coins on display, the last time I was there I was pleasantly surprised
Poor quality photo. But this is what the sexy Saxon is wearing this fall. Gold coins look Byzantine / early medieval. From the British Museum.
