Hello guys Is it something different on forehead, nose and chin on Lincoln? Thank you for all advice.
Pretty cool. But Meow thinks its a case of heavy duty machine doubling. Meow would keep for the cat hoard anyway.
That stuff on his profile is pretty strong. The rest is insignificant. Doubling? I don't know. Worth keeping? I think so.
Know nothing about Lincoln cent errors, excepting the obvious 55 DDO and 43 steel. How does one grade this coin, subtract what you think are marks caused by something other than wear, abuse or what have you? Would this coin be a brown/red MS64 then?
I just started collecting penny's and making album but I found few penny's that different than another. I need opinion from another folks about pennys. Thank you for all help.
Could this be an example of over polishing to clean up an old die? is there more or less metal that makes the lines look like doubling?
I doubt it. Polishing is meant to take lines out. Polishing certainly wouldn't add anything like this. You're probably much closer to the truth when you mention "old die". Dies wear out. As they wear, they can cause what's known as DDD or Die Deterioration Doubling. The old die can spread and it can also become flatter. Either way, when the old die strikes the planchet, the hot metal expands and squeezes out from under the die, causing what appears to be doubling. This is common and carries no extra value because that is not how true "doubling" occurs. This kind of doubling is known as "worthless doubling". Other forms of doubling are strike doubling and machine doubling. You'll see other members use the initials MD for machine doubling. This happens when something on the stamping machine is loose and allows the die to move slightly causing MD. Again, this is common and has no extra value. I'm going to provide a link that has lots of info on it, in fact, just about everything about doubling. Choose a topic from the list on the upper left and start reading. Probably start with "Worthless Doubling" so you won't be wasting your time in the future. But read as much as you can, even all of it eventually. You will be amazed at the info available and how it helps you to understand the minting process. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties
Meow would need better full coin pictures for a "Guess the grade" game. But Meow thinks there are too many rub marks on the high points of the coin to make it MS. Meow would say its AU, but Meow is not to much into grading coins in the first place.
Look. I'm no expert. I would bag it and take it to a show. Go to one of the num tables. And ask. I know everyone has their opinions. Thats just way to strong(IMO) to not be somthin. I would show that to everyone who knows something. Sorry members
Yeah me too. But when i use my limited skills. Pig headed but thank GOD. We can learn so much on cointalk. Keep your ears open members. They might poke fun at you but remember. These members are the smartest and the best. If anything I've learnded dat
