Is it odd that at my age, I still get just a bit giddy when I receive a wheat cent in change?

Nice find. I was born in 43 and have a lot of old Wheats. But, I haven't found one in change for years. I might get giddy too.

I have not seen a single wheat in decades myself, although I also rarely see change at all anymore, unfortunately.

But yes, I would definitely have a small conniption of joy at the sight of one.

It just means that you have a disease known as numismazimia, or more commonly referred to as coincollertoritis. There is no cure, but can be treated with weekly injections of Coin Talk. :)

Seriously, I think you still have a passion for coins. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one! (Until last year, I was getting them regularly from my daughter-in-law...from the tip jar @ Starbucks. She quit that job for greener pastures, so...)
