I have a question, I was wondering if the mintage on this particular silver dollar was an error. I cannot make out the letter. I am new to coin collecting, please help :)

That is a 1974 D half dollar. Not a dollar. Not silver. Not an error.

The letter is a D, which means the coin was struck at the Denver mint.
The US coins will always say what the value is.
On the back of this coin (the reverse) at the bottom, it says
    HALF DOLLAR.

OK, the mint mark is a D but it has a die chip in the middle making it look like a blob.

Welcome to Coin Talk. According to the Red Book the US Mint produced 79,066,300 1974 D Kennedy Half Dollars.

Sorry my mistake I meant to write Half Dollar. But my question is if it was an error.

Not an error. Just a well worn coin.

Hi Melanie. I suppose in the strictest sense you could say that a filled mintmark is an error. It is a very common occurrence though. Cool find.
