It's been quite a long day, but I came home to this. I wanted to share with y'all. Only $715 dollars outstanding when my HOME TOWN Bank First National Bank of Naperville, Il closed it's doors in 1934. Only a 7 notes are known to be out there. I saw this at the Heritage CSN Auction and knew that if I didn't jump on it, I may never see one again. It looks to me to be in VF condition. 3 vertical folds and a partial horizontal fold. 1902 Date Back $5 NBN, First National Bank of Naperville, Il
I don't think you missed anything - I think there was some confusion with the $715??? That is awesome to be able to get one of seven known to exist! Who cares about condition in a situation like this (Not that it is that bad to begin with)! Congrats :hail: Thanks for sharing! Darryl
I wish it were only $715, DJ. :goof: When the bank closed in 1934 there were only $715 in outstanding notes...meaning the good citizens of Naperville valuing their hard earned cash, redeemed the NBNs for other currency or silver when the Bank called in all the NBNs.
I saw a $10 Naperville NB Note at last year's CSN. I put in a bid on it but didn't realize how aggressive the market was. Those are the only 2 notes I've seen in the past 8 years of determined looking.
Thanks, Gatzdon. There were fewer than 15,000 people in Naperville when my parents moved there. Now I think its close to 10x that number. Parts of it still feel reasonably small town to me. I'd like to get back there more often than I do.
