It hasn't been published for several years, and no longer appears on the Krause website. I've sent my contact at Krause an inquiry about plans for a new edition, and I'll post the response when I receive it.
Roy,I'd be very glad if they are publishing a new edition,as there is a lot of new unusual world coins that should be listed,such as the coins from the Riviera Principality,Hutt River Province Principality,&, of course,the very rare Chatham Islands $5 coin.
Roy, How is this catalog different from the regular Krause books? What constitutes "unusual" coinage by Krause's standards? Sorry if it seems like a silly question but I'm pretty green when it comes to world coinage...thanks!
Definitely not a silly question Robin. The unusual coin catalog covers fantasy pieces from non-nations, such as Aidan Work's beloved "Hutt River Principality", and other borderline numismatic/exonumismatic items, including many privately minted coin-like items. I recently borrowed a copy from the ANA library, and had a very enjoyable time identifying a number of Chinese items I had seen on EBay and never previously been able to confirm. In it Colin Bruce, who originated it, and is the current editor of all the Krause coin catalogs, assigns numbers to the items cataloged which do not already have a Craig, Yoemans, Krause, or other similar ID, and you will occasionally see something advertised as "Bruce #xx". At double the size of the old one, it will probably be somewhere close to the size of the 18th Century volume, a little thicker than the 19th Century, and quite a bit thinner than the 20/21st Century volume. I'm looking forward to its publication. BTW and OT - Did Joe get you a nice Valentine's Day card?
Roy, Thanks for the info...I may have to pick up a copy when it is reissued. Sounds very cool! As for my Valentines Day, BOTH of my boys treated me like a princess today. Hubby & I agreed to no gifts...my logic behind this is that there is a coin show next weekend and this way I wont feel too guilty when I start checking off items on my shopping list . Joe's card was the most beautiful ever (Not that I'm biased ) and he was on his BEST behavior. Ahhhh, if only every day were Valentine's Day.
