i have the chance to purchase a 1895o barber dime for around a $100. not investment but forcollection. i have only 16 left to go this being the most expensive. i have enough to purchase by cashing in kenedy halfs and quarters nothing worth saving . this has been on my mind for over a week. it is just hard to justify the price for one coin. the rest of the set is g to vg .i cant make up my mind or what i have left of it. my wife even told me to sell her jefferson set 38 to 07 including s and s type II. what would you do? acording to the barber dime socity you may find (!) at a large show. the worst part is i know that it will eventualy sale soon because he sales at most of the larger coin shows.

It would seem to me that if you have Kennedy halves and silver quarters worth melt "and you can get a FARE price for them" thats the way to go. I personally have a roll of BU Kennedys that I would hate to part with for any reason, but at one time I have 3 plus rolls and sold all but the best 20 of them to upgrade my collection of proofs.

Having parted with parts of my collection over the years to upgrade or save myself for the poor house, I have found that taking the attitude that you can always replace what you part with in the future if its really missed. The one that really hurts is the sale of a coin that you really love and know you can't replace without winning the lottery or obtaining an inheritance.

100 dollars isn't a lot for a key date to fill a set IMO. But if your stressed about the whole thing just wait and purchase this coin when you have money to spare and don't have to part with any of your collection, even if its something you can live with out.

    Good Luck and God Bless!!!

As stated: What is the grade?
It must be a very low end AG for $100.

    Either way, go for it.

I haven't seen one in over a year!

It all depends on the grade if I would sell off some of my coins, but at a $100 that is a good price if it only in
G-4 condition. If it was me and I had to make the choise between halfs and quarters that has little or no value over face and a set of Jeffersons, it would be the halfs and quarters. It is a hard decision to make but you have too ask yourself what do you want more, the halfs and quarters, the set of Jeffersons, or the Barber Dime? Good Luck and I hope everything work out for you.

    Buy it.

If you let this pass you by, in 20 years time you'll be looking at a $5000 dime and kicking yourself for not buying it when it was only $1000.

That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but look at a 1988 Redbook at look at the cost of certain coins back then... it happens!

I think I'm in love with your wife! No offense meant but if she's willing to give up HER collection she's worth more than the coin.

Find a way to do it without your wife chipping in. Then do it man. If it's a true VF bid is $1000.

I'd say go for it, cash in the Kennedy's and quarters. Those will be available all day long, I am not sure if coins like this will be though. :thumb:

I am with Frank on this one. If you don't want it send me the dealers name too! LOL..

Thats a tough coin to find in VF, REALLY TOUGH. Modern coins can be replaced at will, this coin is a once a year or two offering.
