Got my first gold coins this week. They aren't super valuable, but I got them for under spot gold price (just under $900/oz) from a fellow poker player who needed some cash - I think I did alright!

    So what do you think?

very nice...and a good deal. The scratches would hold several of them back for going much over bullion; but there are a lot of nice details on those half-eagles.

    Nice going.
The coins look like good grades (AU/MS).

    One comment on your imaging.
Something is wrong (lighting?) when gold coins come out looking like copper coins.
Or was this just a quick show-and-tell image?

I have no clue how to effectively scan/photograph coins yet...but I'm sure if I search the forums I'll learn alot! That being said I literally set them on the scanner, put a black folder behind them and pressed scan. I'm always open for suggestions...I actually got 14 of these coins, and also a 1882 $10 Liberty as well. 5-6 of the $5's are just like this, 7 or so are VF-XF, and 2 of them are probably F12.

I love half eagles! They're affordable and large enough to appreciate, IMHO. They are what I have been collecting for a while now.

That's exactly my wife's reaction when she held the $10 for the first time. She was surprised by the weight and how great it looked for a 130+ year old coin. For just a moment she forgot about how much money I had spent! Oh well nothing great lasts forever:)

You bought 14 of 'em?! Your poker playing friend must play in the high stakes game :) Lots of local tournaments are firing up nightly advertising WSOP seats as prizes. WSOP happening next month or is it June?
