I totally agree. Which is why I bought in the knowledge that I was possibly buying the highest graded specimens to date
Some cheap ones. Chinese one cost 1 euro (i intially thought that it is made of nickel, but apparently its silver), the rest cost 3 euro. Should be ok price.
I picked this up in the recent stacks bowers auction to go with my 1808 duro. Both seige coins from the same country but one from the island (Majorca) and one from the mainland of Spain (Gerona). The Gerona Duro
One of only 36 coins seen at the grading services for the 2 year type, split exactly even between the two years with 18 coins graded each for 1827 and 1828. There were a total of 4 of these offered in Chicago a few weeks ago at the ANA convention. An 1827 in NGC MS67 reserved at $50,000 which went unsold at Stack's. An 1828 in PCGS MS63+ that also went unsold with an $8,000 reserve at Heritage. And a pair of 1828 coins, both MS62 which sold at Stack's, one each from NGC and PCGS. Mine was actually a post-auction buy, and given that it has a nicer strike than the NGC coin that sold at auction the day before, it was an irresistible acquisition. I had other Egyptian coins I sold at the Stack's auction that did exceptionally well, making the decision that much easier. Heavy coin, over an ounce Troy of gold. We were in Tuscany on vacation in June. I couldn't find any kind of listing for a coin store in Florence or anywhere else in Tuscany for that matter. Had to wait until the end of the summer here in the states to add what has to be the coolest souvenir I've ever owned. And to think it wasn't even my first choice. Had originally ordered a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo shoes online only to discover they looked like something only an undertaker would wear before returning them.
I love the simplicity and consistency of designs in this series. It's easily my favorite 'national subdivision' series that any country has done so far.
I picked up this beautiful MS 61 silver Yen at the BRNA show in Dalton, GA Saturday minus the original slab. Along with a host of miscellaneous foreign silver that was highlighted by an 1863 Great Britain Shilling. 1 Yen Meiji 37 (1904) Imperial Japan
Just picked this set up for $5 today! Every coin is MS. Beautiful. To start, I have included a close up of the new10 pence, first year of issue 1968.
1795 Bamberg - Sede Vacante medal struck to commemorate the empty seat upon the death of Franz Ludwig Freiherr von Erthal, the prince-bishop of Würzburg and Bamberg from 1779 to 1795. 37.4 mm; Zepernick 72.
So these have apparently been in this board for a very long time as the 1/2 and the 1 penny have the black around the rim and the fingerprint has appeared on the 1/2.
So a five minute soak in acetone seems to have removed most of the black junk from the board. There is residual toning, but much better. Looks like the "fingerprint" is gone as well.
