Scipio Africanus Coins from the same die ?

    One of our members rrdenarius
    Posted up a pic here about 2 weeks ago of a coin of His.
    I have since bought one and after looking at the front of the coin
    it looks to me to be from the same exact die.

    What are your opinions , I would love to hear from you all.

    First coin is the coin of our member rrdenarius

    The coins are both an obverse and reverse die match. See below for a direct comparison.

    It's always nice to reunite siblings separated at birth ;)

    I see a few flaws on one coin that do not appear on the other, and vice versa. So I agree with the above opinions. A double die match, rather than one or both being forgeries, is the most likely explanation. Nice find!

    I have looked at quite a few of these and the patina most of the time seems to be a black patina. Would this be because of the type of metal mixture that was used mostly at this particular mint ?

    Nice coin bcuda. They look the same to me. I bought mine from a Spanish auction house.
