    Welcome to Coin Talk. It's a Connecticut State Quarter minted in 1999. IMO it looks like both sides were ground down by someone with nothing better to do. Called PMD (Post Mint Damage).

    But horrible people have developed ways of creating that type of damage.

    It is definitely not a mint error.

    cpm9ball CANNOT RE-MEMBER

    A Dremel tool can do this without removing either the rim or the central part of the device. It can also be used to remove the reeded edge.

    An attempt at hobo quarter? But slipped out of someone's pocket before it was done?

    @Info197222 ...GO to:
    doubleddie.com,
    error-ref.com, and read everything on both of these sites.

    ...then look at your coin again, and tell us in what ways your opinion about it was changed.

    If you are honest with yourself, and are here willing to learn, this will make you a better collector.

    And, if you also collect cents, go to lincolncentresource.com for even more info.

    Hope this helps...Spark

    Really? And how were we to know that? And if it was supposed to be a joke, it's pretty childish. What, are you five?

    To the original poster: We see these quite often. A surprising number of people apparently have fun grinding and sanding down coins. Why? Who knows...

    I got one in change last week, by the way.
