It's raw in an old Capital holder.
It has more luster than the image shows but I'm sure it's been cleaned.
Give me your thoughts. Is it ugly?

Thats a very nice SLQ that you have there. I dont see any wear on the leg, which is usually one of the first features to show signs of wear besides the head and the shield. But the toes look flat to me. Very nice detail overall. I'd give it an AU58 which I believe is being conservative.

I will also go AU 58

there needs to be a little more detail in the gown to bump it up

It isn't ugly. I personally don't care for the toning to be so uneven but it is a nice coin. The reverse (and it may be the lighting of the picture) looks a little weak and the shield lines are too worn for AU 58. In my set I would grade it AU 50. Still it is a very nice addition to any collection.

I'm like afernbaugh. I don't care for that type of toning.
    BUT
That has very little to do with the grade. That's strictly eye appeal.

It will certainly make XF-40, and possibly XF-45.
IMO the eagle has a bit too much wear for an AU.
On the obverse the shield shows too much wear for an AU. Gown lines at the thigh are partially gone, and I see a bit of wear on the leg. All points to an XF.

XFish could go either way, 40 or 45 I'd say.

    Hi Larry,

It looks like a solid AU to me and to my eyes, is neither attractive nor ugly.

XF is as high as I can go on that one, not too bad.

I'm a newb, please bear with me....

Doesn't Liberty's toes need to be sharp to get XF40? Does that mean that all toes need to be seen?

That depends on what set of standards you use. Too many forget that the different TPG's all use different standards when grading coins. And none of them follow the ANA standards. With this series for example, if you compare the ANA standards to the PCGS standards - what PCGS calls XF, the ANA calls VF.

Man, I am on my own this late round of gradings. I would say MS-62. Not a FH. I don't think that this coin is struck particularly well. If this coin is not MS, it certainly qualifies as a slider!

Not ugle at all, it looks original. My thoughts as I looked at the coin was that is was an AU. It looks like others felt the same way.

Coin is not ugly but, its also not an eye catcher. I am from the old school where we had a grade called EYE APPEAL. This coin in my opinion lacks that. It does have the Technical Grade though.

i am not sure 'bout the grade but it might be a bit ugly but it is still a great coin. something to hold onto forever.

I agree with everyone and say AU. It would be much more attractive if it didn't have the brown rust-looking stuff around the edges and there were a few more of the finer details all around.

I would agree, based on the obverse.
However, look at the eagle on the reverse.
It definately looks like signs of circulation.

However, I like the toning, it looks natural and original.

    Don't dip it!
