Hi, so i found this coin/token. I know its from Shell oil Co. but for what, when it's made is a mystery - couldnt find anything on it after hours of researching. Both sides are identical, no marks or text anywhere.
Its a token not a coin. By Googling "Shell Token" the only one I found in Google Images without the word "Shell" was yours on this site
Welcome to coin talk. Some tokens can be really hard to find any info on due to various reasons. You can post it in the thread https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-see-your-exonumia.203005/ Someone there may have info about your token.
I managed to find this token, its almost similar but its not same on the both sides and the icon looks bigger on it - Rarity index is 97/100. Type Token Composition Brass Weight 7.4 g Diameter 27.8 mm Thickness 1.7 mm Country, mintage, year unknown. Another one i found had more info on it that seemed similar - Rarity index is 93/100. Country (Netherlands - Automatic Tokens) Type Token Composition Brass Weight 5.2 g Diameter 20.0 mm It's a coffee machine token. Mintage unknown, year 1973+ This one looks the closest by the icon. Type Token Composition Brass Weight 3.45 g Diameter 20.05 mm Thickness 1.55 mm Seems like coffee token(just a guess). Country, mintage, year unknown.
I don't know in this case, but some gas stations issued tokens to use the restroom. I have a couple gas station restroom tokens around, though not with a Shell logo.
That's a very nice Shell oil token. I'd gladly add that to my collection. My best guess would be probably from the 40s or 50s for arcade games that used to be in the gas stations. It could also be a token that with a full up with so many gallons was given to the customer to be redeemed at a later date for gas or other services. A lot of gas stations used to have free giveaways in order to attract your business. Glassware was popular.
Added other side image, seems like it's needed - has some wear marks on the edge that might suggest towards inserting somewhere. Had no luck searching at other categories.
Arcade tokens tend to be either 0.963" or, less commonly, 0.900". Try searching for trade tokens instead of merchant tokens.
