Congratulations, @Pishpash , well done! Nice coin. I am very envious...this is one of my targets. Here is a bronze from the next island up from Sicily: Carthage Sardinia AE19 First Punic war 264-241 BCE 5.4g Tanit left - Horse head right symbol SNG Cop 225
Nice coins! Here is one of mine: Carthage 1/2 Shekel, 3rd-2nd century BC Obv: Head of Tanit left, crowned with ears of corn. Rev.: Horse standing right, head turned left, foreleg raised, linear circle. Billon, 5.37g, 23.3mm Ref.: Sear 6497, SNG Cop. 396 Ex Pecunem 10, Lot 263
Very beautiful! Like the others above, this era and location in history and the coins connected are an interest of mine! Zeugitania, Carthage, 203-201 BC BL 1½ Shekel or Tridrachm, Second Punic War Obverse: Wreathed head of Tanit left. Reverse: Horse standing right, head left; pellet between hind legs. References: SNG COP 396, MAA 81c Notes: Black surfaces; The billon of this issue has extremely low silver content, such that nearly all examples appear to be bronze.
Gosh, @Pishpash ,since we are posting CARTHAGE Coins, I gotta hankerin' to post another! @Justin Lee ... I really enjoy your 1-1/2 Shekel (cool denom)... here is one of mine: Don't see too many GALLOPING Carthage Horsies, they seemed to have liked them poised: Carthage Zeugitania 400-350 BCE AE 15mm 3.39g Head of Tanit left Horse galloping r SNG Cop 97 Not many COWS / BULLS either: (I laughed out loud when I captured this one. The Seller attributed it as a STEER on the reverse... Look closer. He has all his equipment... itsa Bull to you all "city-slickers". ) Carthage 216-215 BCE Sardinia mint AE 3.3g Tanit L - BULL stndg R CNP 377a Here's a Carthage Pegasus: Carthage Siculo 264-241 BCE AE 15 Palm Tree Pegasus 1st Punic War This one is a little unusual: a MALE head on the obv, instead of Tanit. Carthage Zeugitana 4th-3rd C BCE Male Head Horse
My first horsey coin. When I first started collecting, this coin sang to me. For some reason it still does. No feet, quite ragged, but I still love it. I have no idea why!
Then I got this one. I call him Dobbin. Carthage c. 201-146 BC Tanit Left / Horse right 3 Shekel AE (Copper) 28mm x 17.78g Looks like Tanit is smoking a cigar...Tough woman. This is a rare late large denomination coin.
I cannot answer for you, @Pishpash , but I enjoy it as the Horse is looking back... as if it is in pensive curiosity. It is a cool pose.
And I also got this one. A favourte because it is an ex SteveX6 (who had wonderful taste). The x6 Collection A menagerie of ancient animals & awesomeness Pherai AE Chalkous Obverse : Head of Jason right, wearing petasos. Reverse : Lower leg of horse. @Pishpash absolutely beautiful coin! Congrats! I would like to add this type to my collection some day.
Mine may not be the purdiest, (yeah, @TIF has a gorgeous example), but I have a pretty good size DRAFT HORSE from Carthage... Carthage 201-175 BC Æ 15 Shekels 45 mm 7.5 mm thick. 102.6g WreathTanit Horse uraeus above. MAA 104 SNG Cop 400 RARE
