I'm identifying and holdering some (+- 100) old foreign coins for a friend of mine.
I have never used 2x2 cardboard holders and was trying to get some suggestions as to how to layout the card markings (Country, date, coin name, mintage, grade, etc, etc)
Any suggestions on how you all do it. I what these to look nice because I'm going to ask him for one the coins ( a 1934 Panama VN Balboa)for doing this for him.
    Thanks

I use Avery Labels #5267 which is .5 inch by 1.75 inches (80 per page). On the first line, centered, I use #12 arial font where I list the date, mint mark and denomination (i.e., 1931-S 1c). If you want to put the country of origin, it is up to you. One the second line, I like to list the mintage numbers.

I used to put the grade, but then it became a constant argument with people viewing the collection to buy or just look. I would hear comments like: "That's not a MS65RD, it looks like a MS64RD". It's funny now since people view that same coin and tell me it looks like a MS65.

If I keep the 2x2's in an 3 ring album, I put the labels below the coin. If they are stored in a 2x2 box, I put the avery label on the top of the 2x2.

It keeps everything nice, neat and organized. go to your Word program and click under labels and envelopes.

I use the very same method of label as Ed. (arial narrow, Bold, 12pt)

Top line, Left is the inventory number. Top line, center is the Date and Mintmark. Top Line, right is the grade. On the second (bottom) line I usually add important info. Cameo, FBL, DMPL, etc. If it is an error or variety I will list it on the second line, VAM, OMM, RPM, FS#, etc.. Makes for a very neat and orderly display and sure helps to keep the inventory organized.

On the dollar holders there isn't room for the entire label so I limit it to 1 (top) line and cut the label in half.

I use this labeling system for tubes also. Just slide the mint wrapped roll into a square coin tube (they do fit nicely without unwrapping them) put on the lid and stick a label on the tube side. Makes a great looking display for your rolls, and they're stackable.

    Ed,
I don't have 1/2" to work with on some of my cardboard 2x2 (half$, qtr and larger).
I guess I can use one line and cut the label.
    Thanks

Yes, sometimes trimming is necessary but the finished look is worth the effort IMHO.

The description of the labeling, font etc is nice to hear.
At many coin shows and online I have seen many different types of information that is placed on many different variants of coins - bills sizes.
It would be nice if this was ever standardized and followed to create a precedence.
This would "take an act of Congress" like anything else...but it would be nice.

Can anyone who has commented on this above, please screen capture or post some of your many examples of labeling ?

If others are seeing this post that have not commented before can you please include some examples ?
