1947 S/S ?

This looks like an s/s to me but it does not come close to the varieties I've found elsewhere. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Frank's post above means damaged, so no, it would not have any value really.

 

IDK.....there's underlying medal that looks to my eye to have been a repunch, yes the mm may have taken a hit but that would not account for the underlying devices I see.
It's not a valuable coin I would soak it and use a tooth pick to loosen up that crud around the mm.

I do believe it is an rpm I see serifs under the main 2/3 places

I see. PMD = Post Mint Damage? How can you tell? I'm an amateur and I don't see it.

 

The curvature at the bottom of the "S" is wrong indicating it took an unfortunate hit in that area and flatted the mint mark. But Paddy has a good idea of soaking to see if there is an underlying re-punch hidden there.

 

I don't know Paddy. It looks just like the dirt that is surrounding the date.

What do you have to loose a damaged coin worth 3 cent.....you can't expect any sort of value from this specimen.
Well let me rephrase that yes the value of your discovery but besides that you got a coin which rolled up in a roll of 49 more alike would get you what $1.50 most dealers I know pay depending 2 to 3 cent on wheats.

 

I see what you're saying. What do you use to soak it - just water?

 

Actone....avaible at a hardware store walmart also sells it. Soak use a sharp tooth pick it loosen and remove the dirt.

Fill a small jar like a baby food container. As it has a lid Actone will evaporate and is very flammable

 

Acetone dissolves organic materials which is what the stuff on your coin looks like. Acetone is also in finger nail polish remover but do not use that, just use pure acetone. Do not brush or scrub the coin, just soak it for awhile and see what happens. If need be try again. As Paddy said, follow the precautions on the container carefully.

I think it is damage also. Reasoning : If the 'blob; inside the lower "S" bend/loop of the real mintmark was the end of an underlying second "S" , there should be a corresponding area raised top curve of the imagined second "S" above the mintmark, and that area is untouched. Mintmark would be same punch and font, so no imaginary midget mint marks. IMO, Jim

 

Could be a die chip in the bottom, happens a lot.

I totally agree that the mint mark took a hit. I'm joining the hung jury until I see the results of what it looks like after the OP cleans the dirt from around the mint mark. @RBurk, please post photos after you clean it. Thank you.
