I have an 1805 large cent and i'm wondering how much its worth. I dont have a camera but i'll describe it the best i can. The entire coin is a very dark chocolate brown. The obverse is completely smooth and is very worn. The top half of the word "Liberty" is gone. The only details in the bust (lady liberty i guess it would be) is the very outline of it and her mouth. The date 1805 is worn completely smooth but is still readable. The reverse is in much better condition. The very center with the wreath and the words "one cent" are very clear and stick up pretty high. The only thing thats missing are the finer details in the wreath. The outer edges of the reverse aren't as nice as the middle. The edges are completely smooth. The word "united" is nice and clear, "states of" is completely worn off and "america" is also clear. In the faction 1/100 at the bottom, 1 is very nice and clear but the bottom half of the number 100 is almost gone. Just wondering about how much this coin is worth. Thanks!
That would be hard to tell without a picture but a guess would be around $35 retail sounds like it could be an ag3. The price may go up with a picture.
I graded it as Good-4 myself and payed $65 for it I'll try to get my digital camera working as soon as possible and get some pictures.
A picture would be best, but i have noticed that some people use g-4 as a catchall for the lowest grade, but you can have p(oor)-1,f(air)-2, ag-3 no one uses below g-4 probibly because the redbook usaly don't list these conditions in the price chart. The general description for a g-4 condition is full rims.
Without pictures it is hard to say what the grade or the price might be. It will also help us determine for ourselves what shape the planchet is in. We need pictures and besides I like looking at large cents that others own.
Yeah it doesn't have any rims. Its no better than ag-3. The guy definitely ripped me off he sat here for about about 15 minutes convincing me the back was fine because of how nice the words "one cent" are. In every picture online i've seen of a large cent thats p-2 and ag-3 the "one cent" and the wreath are just as good as mine. Oh well :headbang:
Before assuming you were ripped off please post a picture of the coin. Again if it is a problem free coin I would be willing to pay more for the coin. So while you may think you were ripped off I can not say, since I have not see the coin. And as far as I know AG/G coins run 30-60 dollars depending on the condition. So you may have paid a little bit too much, but I can not say until I see the coin.
Can't argue with those prices, but depending on the planchet on if I would pay more or not. Sometimes it is really hard to get a feel for prices on large cents.
Yeah i've seen so many different prices for the coins ranging from $30 to $75. I'll get a pic of it a.s.a.p
