Okay, another Toned Morgan for the GTG. I no longer own this coin. I had, and sold it 4 years ago, if you can recall when I divested 200 of my Morgan Toned coins in a consignment sale, to give my son and daughter in law a wedding gift. Since then, it has been re-sold twice. If you wish, you can A) guess what I got for it 4 years ago, and B) its most recent sale price. Many of you might remember when I had posted the coin previously, so no peeking. Also, did it get the star, or not?
I'm torn between 63 and 64. I choose 63, but that color is fantastic. Definitely worth a Star, in my opinion.
I agree with @Lehigh96 . . . 64+* . . . On second thought, since I can’t select either a plus or a star, I’ll say 65, even though it rubs me the wrong way.
I was between a 64 (closer to my grade and was my vote) and a 65 (closer to a market grade). I'd split the difference and call it a 64+ I will say yes to the star. A) Sold 4 years ago: $375 B) Sold now: $575
@Morgandude11 since the photos aren't yours, how close are they to how you remember the coin? Is there any enhancement of the color?
Did not get the star. I was initially surprised when I bought it in 2011 that it did not get the star, but there is black on the edge of the toning by the rim. NGC will not give a * if there is any black in the toning, so it is a correct call by NGC. The 63 grade, I think is appropriate—1889 is a poorly struck date for the Philly mint, and this coin does have a soft strike, which cost it a 64 or better. I paid $150 in 2011. Sold it at auction for $458.79 in 2015. It sold 2 months ago for $809.33
I just voted MS 63 (before scrolling to the bottom)- great coin and amazing colour. Unfortunately, I missed all the fun.
