From naked eye coin looks penny colored on sides of dime,also has smooth areas. Is it clam shelling error?Thank you in advance for all replies
The reeded edge has become flattened while in circulation. It is supposed to have that color because it is composed of a copper-nickel outer layer with a core of pure copper. If you don't have a copy of the Red Book, you should get one. Chris
The darker color is due to Environmental toning.. there is copper in the Cupro-Nickel clad.. I don't see any Clamshell lamination
