I too am loving to see this Are you serious? Where they TPG'ed or Raw? And great post again LeHigh!! Thanks for the info.
Treashunt...the 5 raw were from dealer stock? At show's or B and M's or where? Just trying to help me find one...you greedy little cherrypicker lol I mean 5...leave a few out there for us
lehigh, I hate you so much, I really do! Hee hee. Real nice coin. I still need that one and a high grade 43/2. Good news is I am about to send in the rest of my registry jefferson war nickels in for reevaluation, older slabs, I think I got a couple more FS coins in there. These were slabbed in the early 90s so there is a good chance they are unattributed. Maybe I will catch up to you once more! Thanks for sharing!
I meant to post to this thread earlier. What a great looking variety, Paul. But apart from that, I think this coin has a great untoned look. White coins are beautiful in their own right and this is a great example of it. By the way, as NGC grades Jeffersons, from other examples posted by you and others here, this coin seems undergraded by a point or so.
Nice looking coin. I have a nice XF in my collection. Lots of varieties to the Jefferson series. It's a great modern series with overdates, double dies, type I and II steps, full steps, silver war nickels, and even the recent commemorative series. It's also the only modern circulating coin to have a significantly changed obverse profile. I was hoping that the mint would take advantage of this and change the cent and quarter to a front facing portrait too.... that would make the circulating coins more consistent with each other. But sometimes I just don't understand the Mint. Steve
How very odd that this thread was revived from the dead today...currently awaiting two prospective cherrypicks (should be at the PO today) to join the others - all from this week. None are MS...but the newer coins should be an XF and an AU. So...they are still out there.
I almost cherry pick one during my lunch break, but the place was so busy I thought I would try the next day. Well that night the place burned down, just my luck.
In the last 30 plus years I've sold (2) 1939 Double dies, My son said he found a 1939 nickel, looked at it and it was one of the two that were sold, His went for around $40.00. Mine can't remember.
Well...I have to say, I'm happy. The two newest coins arrived today as described in the auction photos (always worry that they will switch them out, as it's happened before.) Here are my images of them: ...and here are the rest. The first two below were picked up over the last week.
Now, here is a coin I'm very curious about that is "sort of" related to the OP's thread... This is a 1939 P Jefferson Nickel (Reverse of 1940) with what looks like an "O" or zero under the T of MONTICELLO. I've never seen another like it. I've had it sitting in my storage box for, maybe 5 years? I think 5 years ago, I tried to contact Brian Ribar (since I was directed there for Jefferson Nickel attributions) and did not get a response, so I just 2x2'ed it and put it away. What do you all think it is? I think I need to come up with a catchy name for it for marketing purposes if it turns out to be something cool...lol
I have a 1939 Jefferson Nickel this one is very different than all the information I have looked up on this coin. The one I have has the double profile, on the nose & forehead with double dome on the back with a strike of a D in reverse. I am 69 yrs old, I found this coin in change when I was 17yrs old. If anyone can give me any more info my email is [removed by moderator] Sorry, Howard- email addresses in posts are a no-no- but hopefully you'll get some replies in this thread.
