That's what I do for coin show spending money. I took my jar to the bank yesterday, and now have $120 guilt free dollars to spend :)

I put my coins in a jar, but it normally goes in the vacation fund.

Years ago I started taking a close look around at non necessity things I was paying for but could live without and everytime I eliminated one of those I flagged that savings for coins. Example - starbucks, going out to movies, HBO, buying new release dvds, etc. Latest was an unused dialup internet subscription and a napster subscription. Some people teased me about being a bit obsessive (cheap) carrying my own water bottle rather than buying soda's out in public places but that really adds up too. Last coin show I went to a coke was $3! I still do the coins in the jar thing - have two 5gal bottles full of clad - but am saving that for the cruise of a lifetime.

Yes, it is a great way to save up a little cash.

I rarely spend any change. In fact it almost always goes into my ash tray. When the tray fills I take the coins out. Sometimes it can be $15 or $20 or more.

I used to put it all in an old canvas mint bag. When full enough that is wasn't ridiculous to carry it held nearly $300. Last time I switched to a 5 gallon water cooler bottle. I've been at it for a while and have about 1" across the bottom. I'm gonna need a fork lift when it is full.
