What would cause missing detail around Lincoln's ear?

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is from the mint and how it happens. The smoothness towards the inner ear that doesn't have Lincoln's hair detail can be seen just by the naked eye.

An over polished die. Nothing major.

Is it possible this could also be caused by a filled die?

Very difficult to see with uncropped photo. It would be nice to see both sides of the coin. Die polishing normally does not affect hair and ear detail since they are recessed further than the fields on a die.

Suggest with coin in hand, determine if there is really a difference from this one (use cursor to highlight the ear area). I am not seeing a difference. If you still think it is different, then a close up photo would be helpful.

It's my inability to take a decent pic and I apologize. I hope these will show more clarity in missing detail by Lincoln's inner ear. Reason it caught my eye was it made the President look like a Vulcan.
