Uhm....where do I start? Let's start off with me saying...Never give up,they show up when you least expect it....... This one is a stunner This is a DDO3..or is it? (Wexler reference)look at first comment for continued suspicion of a DDR as well DIE MARKERS 1. A die scratch extending from the 8 to the 3. Check 2. A die crack on both the left and right lower ends of the memorial. Check Extra goodies 1. Nice die crack across the top of his head 2. More die cracks and a big cud/chip on the top left memorial 3. An odd anomaly under the memorial, due to clash I suppose 4. As u can see, they really tried super hard to polish out clash marks all throughout the coin...but...failed. Strong columns clashed in his face, best seen on the top lip to his jawline and extending over top of liberty Continued below
But wait...theres more..... Can this be a DD on the reverse as well? I'm almost convinced..look how thick the lettering is....this would be a new discovery?
Phat letters is something best left for *i2i* since he is so smart. Just ask him. He'll tell you. I'm sure you have read this before.....a cud is a break along the rim that extends into the field. A country boy would understand what a cud looks like if he has ever tended to cows. I don't see any evidence of a clash. The fact that there are die polishing lines is not necessarily indicative of a clash. Lincoln cent dies are notorious for accumulating grease & grime and need an occasional cleaning. Chris
Is that not what is showing here? @cpm9ball Clash Marks from columns Also ...look at this,wow....what what is all this extra stuff on his back....its super thick and gives him a humpback. Clash mark under chin
@cpm9ball man...u cant tell me you dont see that on his back... Clash all the die markers match and the coin shows obvious doubling.. You may be correct on the clash, idk,I see them personally. I appreciate your time to look and give your opinion tho,I rly do.
So, you found a coin from circulation that has been subjected to "God knows what" over the last 35 years, and you're able to use a USB scope that is capable of detecting gnat doo-doo and you expect me to agree with you. I don't! Chris
I'm not using a usb scope and I'm not asking you to agree,I'm simply showing you what is there for consideration. All u do is point out the negatives in everyones posts and never even consider the points trying to be made....regardless,thanks for your input, much appreciated.
Like Eric , I see a couple of die cracks and either chips or damage, but no DD on obverse or reverse. Not even mechanical doubling. Sorry , Jim
Ok,thank you for your opinions, the ddo3 isnt the most impressive dd by any means and can be easy to miss,I'm no professional at photography but I promise I will get a clear shot when I make it home...I may have jumped the gun a bit on assumptions,but...the die markers are literally spot on,and the dd is clear under the loop imo. I'll update in a bit
This is Wexlers Here is mine I mean.....cmon....nothing? Lol. Take into consideration, mine is alot heavier circulated.Even so,the Die MARKERS are identical@desertgem @eric6794
A DD must be 100% like the descriptive photo, not just close. Look at the end of the 9 where it begins it's loop ( big arrow head) and go back just a small portion tp left and notice that the outline angles inward toward the tip of the arrow. Then go to Wexlers and notice that from the same point as yours it angles outward and the doubling is distinct. Look at the 3 where the middle arm ends ( your arrow), again it angles inward. Look at wexlers, same place, it almost parallel. The top of the 8's show difference also. Sorry , but it is not the same. I do see some 'doubling' on the date numbers but it is flattened and I believe it is mechanical doubling. My opinion from the photos, but I suspect more photos will just show the same. IMO, Jim
Just because there are die markers which in this case is the die cracks on the memorial for the 1983 doesnt always mean its a doubled die I too have fell victim to that. It is hard to tell sometimes. I wish you luck.
It's not just the cracks, its everything down to the small scratches in the die that are the same,Its quite a let down tbh. But,it is a rly neat coin that i will hold onto and enjoy until it dicenegrates into dust from zinc rot......speaking of,I never weighed it.
