Hi, I'm new to this forum and have come because I've seen on youtube people go here when they need help identifying ancient coins. I have a coin I recently bought that the seller identified as Alexander the Great (Arados mint). However, I can't find any other examples of it online. If anyone could help me figure out what it is or has any information about it please let me know.
Hey Nathan. Welcome It would be helpful if you took the coin out of the flip and took pictures straight on, cropping out all the unnecessary background. I'm having a tough time making out what the reverse of your coin is.
The pictures are not great, but a search of vcoins https://www.vcoins.com/en/coins/ancient-2.aspx using "Alexander Arados" finds at least one that might be like yours, depending upon the reverse.
Welcome to the fun filled world of ancients!...better known as "The Dark Side" I was able to find your type on AC search https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...s=1&thesaurus=1&order=0¤cy=usd&company= Though I know little about the type it looks on point to my eyes. Now get those staples out of there before you accidently hurt a coin!
It looks like a fairly typical small bronze of AtG. I can't confirm the mint--that is, that it came from Arados--but I don't know of many collectors of this coin type who collect specific mints. The type itself is fairly common and readily available to someone seeking to buy one. The value of this coin depends greatly on its condition, with really nice ones going for up to $100-$150. Yours appears to be in pretty rough condition, though. I have often seen coins like yours in the $5-$15 price range, depending on the dealer and venue.
